"Algeria, February 2019. The 5th candidacy of incumbent President Bouteflika leads to a pacifist popular uprising, which turns into a revolution. Nardjes, a young Algerian woman, joins this movement eager to regain hope. Shot on March 8, 2019, International Women's Rights Day, the film portrays her as she joins thousands of demonstrators in central Algiers determined to overthrow a regime that has gagged them for decades.
The director follows in Nardjes' footsteps in a city overflowing with new energy and dreaming of a better future. The parade is coming to an end, and Nardjes finds himself with his friends in a nightclub. The momentum of the collective gives way to a trance-like monologue as Nardjes dances alone. Dawn then dawns on the city. Nardjes addresses her with a new, stronger voice, in which anger and hope cohabit. Karim Aïnouz paints a powerful and touching portrait of a young woman struggling for change. Her film is a vibrant tribute to the hopes of an entire nation."
