With Pascal Légitmus, Med Hondo, Laure Moutoussamy.
Directed by and starring Pascal Légitmus (often referred to as the
French Eddie Murphy), Caribbean in Paris is a hilarious comedy about
a family from Guadeloupe in the French Caribbean, and the mishaps
that occur when the family patriarch's wife is kidnapped during a
business trip to Paris. Frantic chase scenes and kinetic comedy
collide in Légitmus' film about the importance of family and
community.

THE HARDER THEY COME(1972) 120min
Directed by Perry Henzell.
With Jimmy Cliff, Carl Bradshaw, Basil Kean.
An instant classic, The Harder They Come not only broke open reggae
music to a wide audience and launched Jimmy Cliff to superstardom,
but also put forward a political and social message that remains as
potent today as ever. A young man from the countryside (Cliff) has
dreams of becoming a reggae superstar, but gets tangled up in
corruption and drug-dealing along the way. Henzell's film explores
the seedy side of Kingston, with Cliff proclaiming that he'd "rather
be a free man in my grave, than living as a puppet or a slave."
