(With a musical career spanning over 50years Miriam Makeba stands apart as one of Africa's most recorded and renowned artists. Popularly known as "Mama Afrika", Miriam Makeba is currently President Thabo Mbeki's Goodwill Ambassador to Africa. Amongst her numerous awards and acknowledgements her most recent include, the Polar Music Prize which she received from the King Carl XVI Gustav of Sweden and the Gold Class Commandeur de la Légion d'honneur from President Jacques Chirac of France. Miriam Makeba still has international touring engagements but largely occupies her self in her role as founder and co-owner of The Makeba Rehabilitation Centre for Girls which is based in Johannesburg, South Africa.)
