The Durban FilmMart (DFM) is a finance and co-production market which aims to create partnerships and further the development and production of film on the African continent. It's a co-production between the film industry development arm of the city of Durban and the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF), South Africa's largest and longest-running film festival and a flagship project of the Centre for Creative Arts (University of KwaZulu-Natal). This collaboration brings to Africa, growth, recognition and the opportunity to develop strategic relationships between film financiers and African filmmakers. The Durban FilmMart continues to raise the visibility of African cinema, stimulate production, and facilitate project collaboration between African filmmakers.

The Programme
Finance Forum is a development platform where selected projects will have an opportunity to hold one-on-one meetings with potential financiers, co-producers, distributors and sales agents...

"This is not a Burial, but a Resurrection" by Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese (South Africa, Lesotho and Italy), starring Mary Twala (South African actress).

Now celebrating its landmark 41st year, this prestigious South African international film festival is a unique phenomenon on the African cultural calendar. The festival will screen around 100 selected films, most of them premiere screenings in this region; host seminars and workshops and include screenings in township areas where cinema facilities do not exist. The international nature of the festival is balanced with a highlighted component of the finest of African cinema.

For the first time in its 41-year history, Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) will go virtual from 10 to 20 September 2020. This prestigious South African international film festival is a unique phenomenon on the African cultural calendar and also promises to be in its virtual version. The festival will screen over 50 selected films, and the international nature of the festival is balances with a highlighted component of the finest of African cinema.

Thirty-One African Projects Selected for Durban FilmMart's Finance Forum

The Durban FilmMart Institute selected the 2020 Finance Forum Projects for the 11th Durban FilmMart Virtual Edition which takes place from 4 to 13 September.
The selected projects, 16 documentaries and 15 Fiction features, will have the opportunity to present a pre-recorded pitch to a panel for investors, agents, distributors, content editors, broadcasters, and programmers for possible further development.

Besides the Finance Forum, the DFM will host several webinars with panel discussions, conversations, forums and hangouts for filmmakers with film industry experts, where they will be able to benchmark themselves, expand their professional knowledge, pitch projects and ideas in meetings and extend their network on a global level.
